LCEC Scholarship Reception
2020 has been a year of a different way of life as we know it. For our 2020 Seniors, senior year has been a year of Hope for the uncertain of what tomorrow will bring.
Lamb County Electric Cooperative’s goal is to empower our youth for a brighter future. The cooperative has always risen to the challenge to continue forward and provide the best service to the members and 2020 has not been an exception. LCEC’s Board of Directors award up-to thirteen $1,500 scholarships to a qualifying member’s high school graduate. LCEC’s service area schools consist of Whiteface, Levelland, Whitharral, Anton, Olton, Littlefield, Amherst and Sudan.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic canceled the remainder of the school year to include memorable events like prom, award ceremonies or graduations. Governor Greg Abbott’s second phase of the quarantine guidelines gave LCEC an opportunity to go outside the box and plan a special event for their scholarship recipients.
On Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. an outdoor scholarship program was held at the front steps of LCEC in Littlefield. Keeping in mind the social distancing and with a sanitizing station available. The successful event was attended by thirteen scholarship recipients and their families from around the LCEC service area. Everyone welcomed the opportunity to have their senior recognized. Nigel Purdon, IT Superintendent led everyone in prayer. Kathy Shipp Manager of Administrative Services led the program and introduced each recipient. Sue Williamson, Administrative Assistant handed a scholarship certificate and a gift to each.
After the program, an outdoor reception of individually packaged snacks and drinks were provided for everyone to enjoy.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, employees and members, we want to congratulate and convey our best of wishes to the LCEC scholarship recipients and all 20XX graduates.
