OLTON, TEXAS — The Community Involvement Committee (CIC) of Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc. and Lamb County Electric Cooperative are giving back to local communities with a cumulative donation of $7,200 to 16 volunteer fire departments, including the Olton Volunteer Fire Department.

A check presentation took place on Friday, April 1, 2022, at the Olton Volunteer Fire Department firehouse. Blake Moore, Lamb County EC General Manager/CEO presented a check in the amount of $450 to Hector Galvan, Olton VFD fire chief. Michael Ramage, Lamb County EC Board of Director from District one; Keeley Adams, City Administrator, Mark McFadden, City Mayor and other LCEC administration department employees were present.

Blake shared how he served on the Tahoka VFD for 7.5 years and the Welch VFD for four years. Volunteer fire departments have a special place in his heart. He has a great appreciation for the job these volunteers do, especially helping to keep our communities safe.

Lamb County EC is a Member of Golden Spread, a generation and transmission organization with a total of 16 Member cooperatives. Golden Spread purchases and supplies power to Lamb County EC for its Member-Consumers and follows one of the Seven Cooperative Principles, Concern for Community.

“Golden Spread Electric Cooperative takes great pride in supporting our local volunteer fire departments (VFD),” said Jennifer Bobbitt, chairperson of the CIC committee. “We support a VFD in each of our 16 Member service territories each year as an appreciation of the exemplary efforts of those men and women who keep our communities safe. I’m happy to be a part of a cooperative that prioritizes community investment in places doing such good work.”

The Golden Spread Board of Directors entrusts to the CIC an annual budget, which is used to benefit the territories served by its 16 Members. Activities and organizations are selected by the CIC and supported by Golden Spread employees. Approximately $15,000 in employee donations annually support volunteer fire departments and senior nutrition programs in its members’ service territories.

The 16 volunteer fire departments receiving donations in early 2022 are: Borden County, Bronte, Cottonwood, Floydada, Fort McKavett, Glen Cove, Hereford, Hooker, Muleshoe, Olton, Perryton, Shamrock, Stamford, Sunray, Tulia and West Carlisle.
