AMI Technician
Location: Lamb County Electric Inc.
Status: Full-Time
Department: Engineering
Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our team as an AMI Technician. This role supports the operation and maintenance of our Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system, which includes electric meters, communication equipment, and supporting software systems.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and learning new systems. Prior AMI experience is helpful, but not required—we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
What You’ll Do
The AMI Technician helps ensure reliable communication and operation of electric meters and related equipment. You will work with both field devices and computer systems to monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and support system improvements.
What We’re Looking For

- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets, data entry)
- Mechanical or technical aptitude is a plus
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
- Ability to lift and carry equipment as needed
Job Duties
System Monitoring & Support
- Monitor AMI system performance and meter communications
- Identify and help resolve connectivity or equipment issues
- Assist with maintaining and improving system reliability
Equipment Installation & Maintenance
- Install, program, and replace meters and communication devices
- Troubleshoot and repair AMI-related equipment
- Assist with placement and setup of communication equipment
Inventory & Equipment Management
- Track and maintain inventory of meters and AMI devices
- Ensure adequate supplies are available for daily work and emergencies
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
Testing & Field Work
- Test meters and devices to ensure proper operation
- Perform meter readings when needed for troubleshooting
- Support field investigations for “no response” or communication issues
Substation Inspections
- Conduct routine inspections of substations
- Record and report equipment conditions and any safety concerns
- Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE
Additional Responsibilities
- Generate reports and maintain accurate records
- Support team members and other departments as needed
- Participate in ongoing training and skill development

JOB DUTIES
Key Accountabilities:
1. Observe all safety rules and regulations.
Job Duty Statement: Learn and follow the safety rules adopted by the cooperative (The American
Public Power Association Safety Manual).
2. Construct and maintain the overhead and underground electric system.
Job Duty Statement: Frame and install poles, install and terminate underground cable, clearing
substations and right of ways.
3. Always strive to improve personal knowledge, efficiency, and skills.
Job Duty Statement: Learn specifications and drawings for overhead and underground in the SGS
handbook. Interpret and complete work orders. Be able to read and understand the mapping
system. Become familiar with the fundamentals of electricity.
4. Begin Lineman training.
Job Duty Statement: Begin learning the basics of electrical circuits. Begin climbing de-energized
poles.
5. Responsible for the use and care of assigned tools and equipment.
Job Duty Statement: Inspect and service all equipment after each use.
6. Support the goals and objectives of the Cooperative.
Job Duty Statement: Follow all policies and procedures the Manager and Board of Directors set.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and training: Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent. This is an entry-level position. The Cooperative will provide training. Prior experience in a related occupation or construction industry is desirable but not required.
Certifications: HAVE A VALID CLASS A CDL DRIVERS LICENSE IN THEIR POSSESSION WITH AN AIR BRAKE ENDORSEMENT.
Physical Requirement and Demands: Required to pass a physical medical examination and take DOT physical, drug, and alcohol screening as required. The position will require climbing utility poles, the occasional lifting and carrying of heavy objects, considerable walking and standing, pulling, pushing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching—frequent exposure to weather extremes.

Duties include but are not limited to climbing de-energized poles, loading and unloading material, and driving and operating trucks and equipment, including boom trucks, trenchers, and lawn equipment, as needed.
